Annual Ball design across all printed and digital collateral for one of London's most prestigious annual events — a 121-year tradition with a different theme every year.
The London Association of Funeral Directors has held an Annual Ball for over 121 years — each event built around a new theme that gives the evening its character. My role is to design every printed and digital element that brings that theme to life, creating a fully immersive visual experience from the moment the invitation arrives to the last item on the table.
Each year starts with a brief from the LAFD committee — a theme, a date, and a set of requirements. From there, I develop a complete visual language for that year's event: typography, colour palette, graphic elements and an illustration or photographic treatment that carries across every touchpoint.
The deliverables include: formal invitations, leaflets, menu booklets, place cards, table plans, raffle tickets, branded champagne glasses, and animated sponsor videos for display on screens during the evening. The challenge is maintaining quality and consistency across formats that range from a business-card-sized place card to a full A1 table plan, all within the same themed world.
The recurring nature of the project means I've built up an intimate understanding of how the LAFD works, what their audience expects, and how to push the creative further each year without losing the formality and prestige the occasion demands.
A consistently delivered annual event package that has raised the visual standard of the Ball year on year. The LAFD have used my work across every element of the evening, and the relationship has grown to the point where I'm involved from the earliest planning stages.
